Madeira International Disaster Training Center (MIDTC)/Associação Medical Clinical Simulation Center with PIC number 893367285 – Portugal, is certified by International Association of MRMID (Medical Response to Major Incidents and Disasters) to run Basic and Instructors courses of MRMI. This program was designed by Prof. Sten Lennquist at Karolinska Institute – Sweden and is under the European Society of Trauma and Emergency Surgery(ESTES) and has a 2,5 day course with 2 exercises with more than 350 victims (simulation patient cards from La Tocha, Madrid 2004).

In 2010 comes to Portugal by Madeira Island and Pedro Ramos, general Surgeon, after a natural major incident in february (Floods) and the MIDTC stars its work of massification of the methodology, involving multiple agencies response to disaster as Health care with Psychosocial, Civil Protection, Security and Armed forces, Decisions makers and Press promoting interoperability and advanced training for multidisciplinary teams.

About preparedness and response to multihazard scenarios, MRMI courses with the model MACSIM – Mass casualties simulation is very elastic to all kind of possible scenarios promoting realistic immersion in simulation environment.

Following the ICS – Incident Command System and MIMMS – Major Incidents medical management system try to respond to the needs of 3C’s: Coordination, Command and Communication.

On the exercises, during courses, medical staff (doctors and nurses, administration boards) from prehospital and hospital work with trauma patients trying to reduce preventable deaths; Scene with triage, transport areas, Hospitals and hospitals command groups are created to give realism to the game under corrdination of Command Centers.

15 years with more than 30 courses, connecting more than 4500 responders to disaster management(all agencies) in Portugal, with active interchange of instructors between MRMI Centers in Europe and Thailand, MRMI Portugal/MIDTC certainly has contributed to develop a model and doctrine in Disaster management and given resilience to communities with the recognition of national authorities and international peers.
